The recognition of the need to preserve the African footprint on the island and that combating racism and racial discrimination is a substantial part of the construction of socialism, guided the exchange held at the International Conference Cuba 2024, Decade for People of African Descent, which brings together activists, academics and political leaders who have expressed their position against prejudicial attitudes that violate human dignity.
In the words of Alpidio Alonso Grau, Minister of Culture, the event is the result of the will nuanced in practice since the triumph of the Revolution itself, and reflected today in the Constitution of the Republic of Cuba; hence the National Program against Racism and Racial Discrimination Cuban Color was constituted in 2019, by the Council of Ministers.
However, he said, although the point of arrival of the aspirations of equality and social justice is considered a little distant, so far seven provinces have reported their work to the National Commission of the Program, with "not at all complacent analysis, with a critical look at the problems, and with clear recommendations for their solution," added Alpidio Alonso.
