Western Union informed, through a communiqué, the indefinite suspension of remittances to Cuba, following the recent U.S. Government sanctions.
According to a note published by Prensa Latina, the entity explained that "due to a change in U.S. sanctions regulations," the financial services company is forced to indefinitely suspend its money transfer service to Cuba, "with immediate effect."
Recently, the government of Donald Trump reincorporated the Orbit corporation, in charge of remittance processing on the island, to the Restricted Entities List.
The news affects a part of the population that benefits from this type of operations.
The Western Union company resumed its service of sending money to Cuba in May last year, after stopping it in 2020, in the first Trump administration.
At that time, the sanctioned company was the financial company Fincimex, as part of the arbitrary measures that, as now, tighten the blockade, thus making it impossible for residents abroad, specifically in the U.S., to financially help their relatives in the archipelago.
Two years later, in 2022, the service was reestablished with limitations, and again it was cut off due to technical problems.
