At the 38th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union (AU), the heads of state and government adopted a resolution condemning -for the 16th consecutive time- the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba, a cruel policy that has harmed the people of the Island for more than six decades.
The text also includes, for the second time, the request to remove Cuba from the arbitrary unilateral list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism.
Furthermore, it expresses deep concern over the extension of the extraterritorial nature of the blockade, including the application of Title III of the Helms Burton Act.
It recognizes the negative impact of such measures, even more cruel in the current context, when the archipelago is facing the economic and social effects of several very severe natural phenomena that have hit the country.
The action of the bloc, on behalf of the mother continent, is an unquestionable demonstration of the close and fraternal ties that exist between the peoples of Africa and Cuba, and the solidarity and commitment of the African peoples in favor of the elimination of the unjust and illegal U.S. policy.
The traditional claim of the African continental organization is of great value in the current context of persecution, since the various U.S. administrations, in recent years, have applied a policy of maximum pressure, which seems to be resumed with the return to power of Donald Trump.
The U.S. president, in a clear demonstration of the aggressiveness of imperialism against the sovereignty, peace and welfare of the Cuban population, decided to reestablish the harsh measures of economic warfare that his predecessor eliminated only days before.
Meanwhile, the resolution adopted at the 38th Summit reinforces the call of the international community to put an end to this unilateral policy, which violates the principles of international law and the human rights of the Cuban people.
