OFFICIAL VOICE OF THE COMMUNIST PARTY OF CUBA CENTRAL COMMITTEE

Cuba ratified its solidarity support to Mexico and its president, Claudia Sheinbaum, for the firm defense of its sovereignty and the values of its people, in the face of pressures from the U.S. government.

Through a message in X, the First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, stressed that "the current challenges of the region must be faced through dialogue and cooperation, without interference or pressure."

Recently, the government of Donald Trump imposed tariffs of 25% on Mexico, under the justification that the government of the Latin American nation was not making sufficient efforts in the fight against drugs.

In response to Washington's action, Sheinbaum said that this measure was decided "unilaterally",and considered it unjustified. She added that "it is time to defend Mexico and its sovereignty. Proudly, we are a free, independent and sovereign country".

The arguments put forward by the White House are contrary to the actions of the Mexican government, Sheinbaum said, and mentioned that figures show that fentanyl seizures in the United States from Mexico decreased by 50% from October 2024 to last January, according to the US Bureau of Customs and Border Protection.
