The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, welcomed the diplomatic corps of Arab and Islamic countries accredited to the Island on Thursday afternoon at the Protocol Hall of El Laguito, in the capital.
The meeting - attended for the second consecutive year by the Head of State - took place in the context of the Iftar of Ramadan (breaking of the Islamic fast), a ceremony organized by the Dean of the Arab Diplomatic Corps accredited in Havana, Ambassador of the Republic of Yemen, Mohamed Saleh Nasher.
In the greeting -which was also attended by Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz, as well as Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, both members of the Political Bureau- the Dean of the Group of Arab Ambassadors expressed to the leadership of the Caribbean country that they support Cuba and are with the nation in the fight against the U.S. blockade, while demanding the lifting of that siege and the exclusion of the largest of the Antilles from the fraudulent list of countries allegedly sponsoring terrorism.
On behalf of the Group of Arab Ambassadors, Mohamed Saleh Nasher presented President Díaz-Canel with a traditional saber as a souvenir and as a gesture of the high regard that Arab and Islamic nations have for Cuba. The present -said the Ambassador- summarizes the defense of the Arab world against colonialism, as well as the entire Arab cultural heritage.
In an aside with the press team of the Presidency of the Republic of Cuba, the Dean expressed that "the holy month of Ramadan is a month of kindness and blessings, and constitutes an opportunity to promote the values of tolerance, solidarity and cooperation. We, as Arab countries, are watching to highlight these values through these occasions that bring us together with our brothers and friends from Cuba".
He also highlighted the role played by the largest of the Antilles in supporting peace and international justice, as well as the prominent place it occupies in the battle for the cause of the Palestinian people.
Those present shared a moment of legendary hospitality and reflection on the common values of justice, tolerance, peace and dignity. Ramadan is a tradition that symbolizes unity, brotherhood, peace and coexistence among peoples.
