WINDHOEK, Republic of Namibia -A persistent rain, a rare occurrence here and a sign of prosperity, renewal and joy, enveloped the sister nation when, at noon on Thursday (local time), the member of the Political Bureau and Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz, arrived at the Hosea Kutako International Airport.
“Thank you for the reception and for the accompaniment as always”, said the Head of Government to Kalumbi Shangula, Minister of Health of the African country, who together with Sergio Vigoa de la Uz, Cuban ambassador in this nation, came to welcome him at the air terminal.
Marrero Cruz arrived in Namibia to attend -on behalf of the Cuban Party, State and Government- the inauguration ceremony of the new President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, as well as the celebrations for the 35th anniversary of the country's independence and the establishment of diplomatic relations, an event that took place on March 21, 1990.
The investiture ceremony of the leader of the South West Africa People's Organization (Swapo) party, which will be attended by several presidents, is scheduled for today. According to tradition, coinciding with the celebrations for the national day, the new head of state will assume the mandate of the electorate that, last November, granted her 57% of the suffrage.
In a pleasant exchange at the airport, Kalumbi Shangula recalled that the ties of the largest of the Antilles with his country are historical, forged in the heat of the struggle against the apartheid regime, and the bonds of friendship that united its historical leaders, Fidel Castro Ruz and Sam Nujoma. “We are pleased that you are here to celebrate them,” he said.
