Moscow, Russia.— Member of the Political Bureau Esteban Lazo Hernández, Chairman of the National Assembly of People's Power and the Council of State, headed yesterday, together with Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, the second session of the Commission for collaboration between the two legislative bodies, held in the Lower House of the Russian Parliament.
Lazo Hernández highlighted the relevance of this working mechanism to boost cooperation between both Parliaments, and as a relevant space to follow up on the agreements signed between both governments, and the consensus reached by Presidents Miguel Díaz-Canel and Vladimir Putin.
"This session is of strategic importance, as it takes place a few days before the 22nd session of the Cuban-Russian Intergovernmental Commission for economic-commercial and scientific-technical collaboration is held in our country," he said.
He thanked the historical and invariable solidarity of the sister nation with our country, especially the systematic declarations of the Federation Council and the State Duma condemning the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the U.S. government, and against the inclusion of our country in the spurious list of alleged State sponsors of terrorism.
Volodin said he was very happy to receive "our Cuban friends, with whom we have long-standing ties", and conveyed warm greetings to Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, leader of the Cuban Revolution; and to Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic.
He said that the meeting allows contributing to the strengthening of bilateral relations, based on the principles of friendship cemented for decades between the two peoples. He described Cuba as "an example of courage, as a country that fights against the blockade and sanctions and defends its freedom."
Lazo Hernández also held a fraternal and fruitful meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who stressed that this official visit "has a special importance", in the context of the second session of the Commission for Collaboration between the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the National Assembly of People's Power, a prelude to the ,23rd Session of the Russian-Cuban Intergovernmental Commission for economic-commercial and scientific-technical collaboration.
The Speaker of the National Assembly paid tribute to the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, in front of the monument to the Commander-in-Chief in the Sokol district.
