Greetings from comrades sent the general secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and president of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, Thongloun Sisoulith, to the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, who received on Monday afternoon the Attorney General of the brother country, Xaysana Khotphouthone.
The Cuban leader stressed that this visit "confirms and ratifies the strong and historic relations between the parties, governments and peoples of both nations."
It has to do -he added- with a history of 50 years of ties, celebrated last calendar, based on the relations between the historical leaders of the two countries and to which the new Laotian and Cuban generations have given continuity.
He emphasized the political relations between Havana and Vientiane, as evidenced, he explained, by the systematic high-level exchanges in both directions.
He underscored as "of great joy" the visit to Cuba of Laotian leader Thongloun Sisoulith, in September 2023, and recalled his stays in the Asian nation in 2013, as First Vice President, and then in 2023, as President.
"From those visits, he stressed, I keep fond memories; "we got to know up close all the history I heard about Laos and its people since I was a boy."
Between Cuba and Laos -he reiterated- there is a history of strong relations, of solidarity; at the same time he highlighted the agreement that exists in the dialogues on global issues and the common position in international events.
The Caribbean leader recalled the island's support for the struggles of the Laotian people and thanked the Southeast Asian sister nation for its position in Cuba's struggle against the blockade and its inclusion in the spurious list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism.
The President shared with the Attorney General of the Lao People's Democratic Republic the celebrations in Cuba, in recent days, for the 70th Anniversary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, and reviewed the development, between both party organizations, of theoretical events on mutual experiences in the construction of socialism.
Regarding the visit, Diaz-Canel told comrade Xaysana Khotphouthone that his stay ratifies the will to continue "strengthening and expanding" the historic bilateral relations, including the legal field, in which, he added, we have important links.
He underscored the importance of the exchanges between the Lao Attorney General's Office and the Cuban Attorney General's Office in confronting global phenomena such as drug trafficking, human trafficking, money laundering and other international crimes, against which, he emphasized, we have very firm and coinciding positions.
The Chief Prosecutor General of the Lao People's Democratic Republic thanked Díaz-Canel for the meeting and reaffirmed the historic ties between the two peoples, between the Communist Party of Cuba and the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, the governments of the two nations and their prosecutors' offices.
Also participating in the exchange on the Lao side were comrades Vanhtha Sengmeuang, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Lao People's Democratic Republic in Cuba; Bounthan Bounthavilay, Deputy Attorney General of the Lao People's Democratic Republic; comrade Phonethip Salavy, Director General of Organizations and Personnel; and comrade Soutsaka Bounmanit, Director General of the Department of Planning and International Cooperation, among other officials.
The Cuban side was represented by Yamila Peña Ojeda, attorney general; Alina Montesino Li, deputy attorney general; Anayansi Rodríguez Camejo, deputy minister of Foreign Affairs; and Patricia María Rizo Cabrera, chief prosecutor of the Directorate of Legal Cooperation and International Relations.
