For the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) and the Cuban people, the celebration of the 35th anniversary of the founding of the Namibian Defense Forces (FDN), created by Article 118 of the Constitution of the Republic of that brotherly country, is a great honor and represents a moment of great significance.
This was stated by the member of the Central Committee of the Party and head of the Political Directorate of the FAR, Major General Victor Rojo Ramos, at the commemoration ceremony for the historic date.
He quoted the words of Namibian leader San Nujoma on the relations of his nation with the largest island of the Antilles, founded on the internationalist practice. “Their ties were forged through the blood of our fallen patriots, they were engraved in the trenches of the battlefields.”
The Angolan, Namibian and Cuban collaboration preserved the independence of the former, opened the way to freedom for the latter, and ended the opprobrious Apartheid regime. Rojo Ramos reiterated the commitment to strengthen the indestructible bilateral friendship and cooperation.
Rear Admiral Naftal Shuumbwa, Namibian military attaché in Cuba, assured that it is impossible to talk about the FDN without mentioning the FAR and the role played by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz. He also acknowledged the People's Armed Forces for the Liberation of Angola and the progressive African National Congress of South Africa.
The ceremony was presided over by the member of the Political Bureau and Hero of the Republic, General of the Army Corps Álvaro López Miera, Minister of the FAR; as well as the Ambassador of the Republic of Namibia in Cuba, Samuel Goagoseb.
