The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez welcomed yesterday Army General, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Permanent Member of the Central Military Commission, Chief of the General Staff of the People's Army and Deputy Minister of Defense of that sister nation, Ngyen Tan Cuong.

There are many reasons that give great significance to his visit, said the head of state, who stressed that this year we commemorate important anniversaries, which become political motivations for Vietnam and Cuba. Among them, he highlighted the anniversary of the founding of the Vietnamese Communist Party; the victory of the Battle of Hanoi, as well as the commemoration, in September, of the victory of Vietnam, and the 65th anniversary of the establishment of relations between the two countries.

The President referred to the "continuity of our historic and special relations", forged on the basis of the brotherhood of leaders Fidel and Ho Chi Minh, to which continuity has been given.

His visit, added the dignitary, also gives continuity to the consensus reached last year, during the visit to Cuba of the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and then President of the Vietnamese nation To Lam, and strengthens the development of important joint projects of cooperation and solidarity.

The President conveyed warm greetings from the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, who, he said, has always been a fervent admirer of the Vietnamese cause.

In a special way, Díaz-Canel thanked the support of the Party, the Government and the people of the Asian nation to the fight against the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by U.S. Government on the largest of the Antilles, and the condemnation of the unjust inclusion of Cuba in the list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism.

"Cuba will always stand by Vietnam", for whose people we feel deep affection and admiration, the President reaffirmed.

For his part, the distinguished visitor thanked for the deference of the reception, and conveyed the greetings of the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam, and other senior leaders.

The Party and the people of Vietnam are grateful for, and we will never forget, the sincere help of the Cuban people in the resistance against the Americans, and we will always remember what they have done for us, both in the past and in the present.

In the meeting with the large Vietnamese delegation, the President was accompanied by the member of the Political Bureau and Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR, for its Spanish acronym), Army Corps General Álvaro López Miera; by the First Deputy Minister and Chief of the General Staff of the FAR, Army Corps General Roberto Legrá Sotolongo, as well as by other high-ranking officers.
