"Cuba was among the first countries to strongly condemn the attacks perpetrated by Israel against the Islamic Republic of Iran". This was stated by the Head of the North Africa and Middle East Directorate (Danmo) of the Cuban Foreign Ministry Armando Vergara Bueno.
At a press conference, and on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minrex), the specialist reaffirmed the Island's solidarity with the Iranian people and government, while warning of the danger of further escalation in the region and a major conflagration.
Vergara Bueno declared that the Caribbean nation has observed with concern, for almost 20 months, the events in the Middle East, following the Israeli aggressions against Gaza, Lebanon, Syria and Yemen.
These conflicts -he stressed- have been backed by the military, financial, logistical and political support of the United States to Israel, an "aggressive" policy that Cuba has repeatedly denounced. Meanwhile, he recalled "the disastrous consequences of well-known military interventions in Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya, which left a trail of chaos, violence and insecurity in those countries and in the regional environment".
Likewise, due to the "precarious and fragile" cease-fire announced by the U.S. and later ratified by Iran, Cuba makes an "urgent call to consolidate peace through dialogue and negotiations, without preconditions or under pressure," he said.
He stressed "the inalienable right of each State to develop research, production and use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes".
He reiterated "the importance of implementing the relevant resolutions for the establishment of a Zone Free of Nuclear Weapons and other Weapons of Mass Destruction in the Middle East."
He denounced that the Israeli genocide in Gaza "was intensified during the 12 days that the Israel-Iran conflict lasted, taking advantage of the world attention it attracted", for which reason he reiterated the Cuban State's demand that "peace in the Middle East requires a comprehensive, just, permanent and lasting solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict, including the creation of an independent Palestinian State".
