China has carried out its cooperation with Latin American and Caribbean countries based on the principles of respect, equality, openness, inclusion and mutual benefit, said yesterday the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Asian giant, Guo Jiakun.
The spokesman stressed that relations between China and Latin America are not directed against third parties and should be kept free from external interference. He also emphasized that the countries of the region have the full right to choose their own development paths and partners.
"Latin America and the Caribbean are nobody's backyard," he stressed.
The spokesman's statements came after a senior U.S. military official claimed that China was infiltrating and plundering resources in the Western Hemisphere.
Guo stated that such accusations "represent nothing more than a worn-out narrative divorced from reality," reflecting a confrontational and Cold War mentality that persists in certain U.S. circles.
He stressed that the United States "has spared no effort for many years to interfere and control Latin America and the Caribbean" and urged it to cease its attempts to "sow discord" and, instead, to contribute to the progress and well-being of its peoples. The spokesman also stressed that China's cooperation with the region has been geared towards meeting mutual development needs, fostering economic and social growth, which has been positively received by Latin American countries.
