The “Daily Log” section of Granma newspaper was awarded as a finalist in the Best Innovation category at the second edition of the Silk Road Award for International Communication, held in China.
The competition is organized by the Belt and Road News Network, which is chaired by People’s Daily, the official newspaper of the Communist Party of China. According to the organizers, its purpose is to “promote the spirit of peace and cooperation, openness and inclusion, mutual learning, and shared benefit of the Silk Road.”
In its second edition, around 5,000 entries from 110 countries were submitted, competing in the categories of Best Innovation, Best Report, Best Photography, and Best Video. Each category recognized ten finalists, four nominees, and one Grand Prize.
Granma’s award was received by the newspaper’s Deputy Editor, Leidys María Labrador.
Prensa Latina news agency was also honored in the Best Report category for the piece “Changes from Tibet, the Difference that Unites Us,” by its correspondent in China, Isaura Diez Millán.
The awards ceremony took place during the Belt and Road Media Cooperation Forum on September 16, in the city of Kunming, Yunnan Province. According to the organizers, the event was attended by more than 200 international participants from 87 countries, representing 165 media outlets and other organizations.
The award guidelines state that the “Best Innovation” category recognizes “innovative works or projects by media organizations that use new media, technologies, and materials, or explore new ideas, formats, channels, and methods to reach audiences, and that have achieved positive results and influence in communication.”

A MULTIPLATFORM PROJECT
“Daily Log” was launched in October 2024 at the Media Forum held in Rio de Janeiro. Since its inception, it has provided a space for topics related to China and its relations with Cuba.
Its content is published on the website www.granma.cu/diarios-de-navegacion, as well as weekly in Granma International, and regularly in Granma, the Official Voice of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba. In this way, the section maintains a presence across the three main platforms of the Granma Publishing House.

Among the hundred articles produced since its launch, highlights include coverage of the “Two Sessions”, the most important political event of the year in that country, the 4th Ministerial Meeting of the China-CELAC Forum, and attention to the initiatives presented by President Xi Jinping and Cuba’s support for them. Articles by Hua Xin, China’s ambassador to Cuba, and other authors from the Asian giant have also been published.
“Daily Log” also fosters engagement with scientific, economic, historical, and cultural topics related to the Asian giant, using photographic resources and videos that enrich and diversify the section.
