U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived in Tel Aviv just days after airstrikes targeting Hamas leaders in Doha, Qatar, and amid intensified bombardments against the civilian population in Gaza.
Rubio visited the Western Wall in Jerusalem, accompanied by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “Under President Donald Trump and Secretary Rubio, this alliance has never been stronger, and we deeply appreciate it,” said Netanyahu as they toured the underground tunnels alongside U.S. Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee.
The presence of the U.S. official at the inauguration of a tourist tunnel in an Israeli settlement located in the Palestinian neighborhood of Silwan, in occupied Jerusalem, is yet another sign of the White House’s endorsement of Zionist actions against the Palestinian people.
During the meeting between the two politicians, they discussed the diplomatic and military consequences of the recent Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) attack in Qatar, as well as its potential impact on efforts to reach a truce in Gaza and the possible Israeli annexation of parts of the West Bank.
It is important to note that this visit takes place one week before the United Nations summit, which will debate the recognition of Palestine as a state, an initiative that embodies everything Netanyahu seeks to erase with the fire of missiles.
The close tone and notable alignment between both officials are no coincidence, but rather the result of a strategic and political alliance based on shared interests and visions.
Their relationship is that of two political allies who mutually reinforce one another.
Netanyahu finds in Rubio a powerful and reliable advocate within one of the most important institutions in the United States, while Rubio strengthens his credentials with his electoral base and donors.
His support is not without compensation: Rubio’s financial backing is bolstered by significant contributions.
The “Pro-Israel America PAC” (AIPAC) tops his list of donors, along with magnates such as Sheldon Adelson, a star donor since 2016, and other pro-Israel philanthropists like Norman Braman and Paul Singer.
Behind Rubio’s political rise lies a network of lobbying groups that is anything but secret: the powerful AIPAC, alongside Christians United for Israel (CUFI).
The Republican Jewish Coalition was quick to celebrate his appointment as secretary of state, describing him as an “outspoken defender of Israel in extraordinarily dangerous times.”
Thus, while the small enclave of Gaza suffers the consequences of Zionist genocide, the Netanyahu-Rubio alliance reveals a bond that goes beyond rhetoric: it is a political and financial pact built on the perpetuation of conflict, crime, and the dispossession of a people, all under Washington’s shadow.
