OFFICIAL VOICE OF THE COMMUNIST PARTY OF CUBA CENTRAL COMMITTEE

After careful analysis of the situation in the region, the Dominican government has decided to postpone the summit until next year. This measure has been agreed upon with our closest partners, including the United States, the original promoter of this forum, and other key countries. We have also consulted with representatives of the main international institutions involved in organizing the Summit, such as the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS) and the President of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). All the resources invested to date will be used next year, including the hemispheric meetings scheduled in our country.
In 2022, when we assumed responsibility for hosting the Summit of the Americas, the profound differences that currently hinder productive dialogue in the Americas were unforeseeable. Added to this situation is the impact of recent climate events that have severely affected several Caribbean countries.
The Dominican Republic proposed its candidacy to host the Tenth Summit of the Americas during the Ninth Summit, held in Los Angeles, California, USA, in June 2022. The OAS General Assembly approved it by acclamation that same year in Lima, Peru.
Since then, the Dominican government has been working hard to ensure the success of the event. This effort included logistical coordination with the OAS and all the organizations involved. The country has fully complied with all the requirements of this commitment.
This postponement entails new consultations on the date of the Summit and broadening the dialogue to include the new democratically elected governments that emerge.
We appreciate all the efforts to support the organization of this meeting: sister countries, international organizations, representatives of the private sector, youth, civil society, and Dominican government institutions, whose commitment and enthusiasm have been essential.
The Dominican Republic reaffirms its commitment to multilateralism, good neighborliness, and alliances to promote regional integration.
