
Doha, Qatar. - The excellent political relations between Cuba and Qatar, based on the bonds of friendship established between the Emir Father and the Commander-in-Chief, took on a new dimension yesterday when Manuel Marrero Cruz, member of the Political Bureau and Prime Minister, was received by the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani.
In the context of the second World Summit on Social Development, the Qatari Head of Government referred to the close ties of brotherhood that exist between the two nations, while highlighting the work carried out by our health professionals in his country.
After conveying a message of solidarity for the damage caused by Hurricane Melissa, he affirmed that the Greater Antilles will always have Qatar's support. He also agreed on the potential that exists to continue strengthening bilateral ties.
For his part, Marrero Cruz acknowledged the work of the Arab nation in hosting the World Summit, which has been an excellent opportunity to reaffirm the pillars of social development: poverty eradication, full and productive employment, and social inclusion.
He then reiterated the willingness to raise economic, trade, and investment ties to the excellent level of political and diplomatic relations.
He also met with Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, Qatar's Minister of State for International Cooperation. During the meeting, they discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation mechanisms and confirmed that initial food aid for the provinces affected by Hurricane Melissa is now ready.
During these working days, the Cuban Prime Minister also met with António Guterres, Secretary-General of the UN, with whom he confirmed the good state of relations between the island and that organization, and highlighted the high level of coordination on priority issues on the global agenda.
The head of government acknowledged the work carried out in Cuba by the agencies of the United Nations system and, in particular, the response provided in the wake of Melissa, providing assistance and material support even before the arrival of the meteorological phenomenon.
