"The question that isn't being asked in the halls of the U.S. Congress is whether that government has the right to deprive independent nations of importing fuel and other goods that don't originate in the US, or whether that's a prerogative any country can claim for itself," stated Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernández de Cossío recently on his X account, in response to a new escalation of aggression by the White House against Cuba.
Faced with these threats, Cuba, which remains steadfast in its principles and positions and maintains a foreign policy of respect for the sovereignty of nations, receives the support of countries like Russia and China, which have backed the island's determination to defend its right to self-determination.
This was confirmed by Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, who, in a press conference, recalled that "Cuba has been suffering for almost 70 years under the harsh yoke of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade illegitimately imposed by Washington," RT reported.
“At the same time, the United States is resorting to all sorts of tricks to further tighten this blockade, including adding Cuba to the odious list of state sponsors of terrorism,” she declared.
The rumors about new pressure tactics, she maintained, “cannot help but cause deep concern… even more so when representatives of the U.S. administration have repeatedly made threats against Cuba, including their willingness to blow up everyone there, and have pressured Havana to accept some kind of agreement,” Zakharova noted.
“We hope that the aforementioned reports are unfounded. Common sense must prevail in Washington as well,” the spokeswoman appealed. Otherwise, she said, it would constitute “a new flagrant violation of international law, prioritizing US domestic legislation and the sanctions regime it has imposed over existing international law, an inhumane interference with the dignity of Cuban citizens, and the creation of a humanitarian crisis on the island.”
CHINA CONDEMNS WASHINGTON'S HOSTILITY
For its part, "China is deeply concerned and strongly condemns the actions of the United States," stated Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun at a press conference, while calling for the immediate lifting of the blockade and sanctions against the island.
The spokesman urged the US to stop depriving the Cuban people of their right to development, as well as to cease its disruptions to peace and stability in the Latin American region.
In his remarks, Guo recalled that the Cuban Foreign Ministry recently denounced these measures, describing them as an attack against a nation that is not hostile to any other country and as evidence that the economic difficulties facing Cuba stem primarily from Washington's coercive policies.
The spokesman also emphasized China's confidence that, under the leadership of the Cuban Party and Government, the people will overcome any difficulties that may arise.
