Because "Cuba and Mexico are brother nations, heirs to a long history of solidarity that we honor today," the Mexican Navy's logistics support ships Papaloapan and Isla Holbox set sail yesterday from the port of Veracruz bound for Cuba with a cargo of approximately 814 tons of humanitarian aid.
This was announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement detailing that both ships are carrying liquid and powdered milk, meat products, beans, rice, tuna in water, sardines, cookies, vegetable oil, and personal hygiene items, among other essential products.
For its part, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba thanked the government, the people, and the president of Mexico for "the material aid that is on its way to the Cuban people."
"Thank you, Mexico," the Foreign Ministry posted on its social media accounts, "for your solidarity and support in these difficult times that our people are experiencing as a result of the economic war imposed on us by the empire."
The aid from the sister nation—sent on the instructions of President Claudia Sheinbaum and through the Mexican Navy—is expected to arrive on the island in four days.  The statement also reported that more than 1,500 tons of powdered milk and beans are still pending shipment.
"The people of Mexico maintain their tradition of solidarity with the peoples of Latin America and in particular with the people of Cuba," the federal government said.
