Army General Raúl Castro Ruz sent congratulations to the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, following his election this week by the National Assembly as President of the Republic, in a vote that reflected the full support of the 495 deputies present.
This election, the leader of the Cuban Revolution stated in his message, is a "just recognition of his unwavering revolutionary loyalty and proven ability to continue guiding the heroic Vietnamese nation in the construction of socialism." This was reported via X by the island’s ambassador to that sister nation, Rogelio Polanco Fuentes.
To Lam, who has reaffirmed the party ties that unite Cuba and his country, is a professor of Security Sciences and holds a doctorate in Law. He has been a member of the Party’s Central Committee during the 11th to 14th terms, and of the Political Bureau during the 12th to 14th terms.
Among the positions he has held are the presidency of the country and the chairmanship of the Council for National Defense and Security in 2024, the secretary of the Central Military Commission since August of that year, and the head of the Central Committee for the Prevention and Fight against Corruption, Waste, and Other Negative Phenomena. He has also served as a deputy in the 14th, 15th, and 16th legislatures.
