A Special Search and Rescue Brigade from the Republic of Cuba arrived in Venezuela this Sunday, a country deeply affected by a double earthquake and numerous aftershocks. They will reinforce—from their areas of expertise—the work being carried out by Cuban healthcare workers, who joined the effort to save lives from the very beginning.
Cuban rescuers will join search and rescue efforts in the regions affected by the recent earthquake, the Cuban Embassy in the South American nation reported.
The group arrived in Venezuela with three search and rescue dogs and experts, joining more than twenty international delegations that have been arriving in the Bolivarian Republic since last Wednesday, Prensa Latina reported.
Upon their arrival, they were received by the Venezuelan Vice Minister for Latin America, Mauricio Rodríguez; the Cuban ambassador, Jorge Luis Mayo Fernández; and other officials.
As of Sunday, the reported death toll had surpassed 1,400, with more than 3,100 injured, according to Jorge Rodríguez, President of the Venezuelan National Assembly.
