Global support for Cuba in the face of growing threats from Washington was once again demonstrated at the 30th International Seminar on Political Parties and Society, organized by the Workers' Party (PT). At the conclusion of the event—held from October 8 to 10—372 delegates from 43 countries unanimously agreed to fight against the genocide of the Cuban people at the hands of the White House and backed their decision to build a sovereign, independent, and socialist nation.
This was reported by the newspaper La Jornada, which also highlighted the demand voiced at the event for an immediate end to the economic, commercial, financial, and energy blockade imposed on the island by the United States government. Likewise, calls were made to respect the sovereignty of the largest of the Antilles and of other Latin American nations.
Cuba "is a nation of peace and poses no threat to any nation on the continent, and, on the occasion of the centenary of Fidel Castro's birth, we reaffirm our firm and unwavering support for the Cuban Revolution," the report stated.
On Friday, the First Secretary of the Party Central Committee and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, addressed the 30th Seminar virtually. In his remarks, he warned that the blockade constitutes "a real and permanent threat" not only to the Caribbean nation but also "to the peace, stability, and security of the region." He further cautioned that any sovereign state could be subjected to similar measures in the future. Faced with this scenario, he reaffirmed the conviction that "Cuba will prevail and will not surrender."
In his message, he sent a "warm, fraternal, and strong embrace" to the Mexican people and President Claudia Sheinbaum, while expressing "infinite gratitude for their unwavering support and commitment" to Cuba.
The event also saw condemnation of the aggression and the crimes of war and crimes against humanity committed against Palestine and peoples fighting for their sovereignty. In this regard, delegates demanded "an immediate end to policies of ethnic cleansing and the intensification of the colonization of the West Bank and other territories occupied by Israel."
Accordingly, calls were made in support of establishing a free, independent, and sovereign Palestinian state and enforcing the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrants against Benjamin Netanyahu.
