Cuban Minister of Tourism Manuel Marrero, speaking to the press in Varadero, emphasized advances in the sector, noting a great deal of activity and increased demand. He was pleased to report a 15% increase in the number of visits during this winter’s high season, January through March, as compared to the same period last year.

Marrero also indicated that the upcoming International Tourism Fair (FITCuba-2015), scheduled for the month of May in the Jardines del Rey resort area, has been designed to include three main events – a commercial/promotional fair; a business forum; and a special pavilion devoted to gastronomy, with presentations and product launchings.
The minister additionally noted the importance of the country’s developing private sector in tourism, which now offers some 8,000 rooms in bed and breakfast accommodations.
