WASHINGTON.- Cuban and U.S. delegations met yesterday, May 21, in Washington for seven hours discussing plans for the reestablishment of diplomatic relations and the opening of embassies.
Yuri Gala Lopez, director of bilateral affairs for the Cuban Foreign Ministry’s United States department, informed the press here that “progress” had been made in the negotiations and that talks would continue today, May 22, at the State Department.
In another important development, the Cuban Interests Section in Washington issued a statement announcing that banking services for its operations in the U.S. have finally been acquired. The diplomatic mission’s operations have been limited since February of 2014, following the M & T Bank’s July, 2013, decision to suspend services.
