ON June 26, the First Vice President of the Councils of State and Ministers, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, received Democratic Party Senator Vermont Patrick Leahy, president pro tempore emeritus of the United States Senate, on a visit to the country accompanied by Senator for the State of Maryland and Democratic leader of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Benjamin Cardin, and Senator for Nevada Republican Dean Heller.

During the encounter, which saw the participation of Josefina Vidal Ferreiro, Ministry of Foreign Relations General Director for the United States and other ministry officials, the parties discussed the current state of relations between Cuba and the United States and the debate regarding eliminating travel and trade restrictions on Cuba in addition to the lifting of the blockade, currently taking place in Congress.
