HAVANA.—On Tuesday, December 8, a meeting was held in the Cuban capital between representatives of the governments of Cuba and the United States on the issue of the compensation claims of both countries.

The Cuban delegation was headed by Abelardo Moreno Fernández, deputy minister of Foreign Affairs and the U.S. delegation by Mary McLeod, Principal Deputy Legal Adviser of the U.S. Department of State.

The delegations exchanged information regarding outstanding compensation settlements between both states. The Cuban delegation presented the basis of the claims, in particular those of the Cuban people to the government of the United States for human and economic damages, recognized by the country’s courts.

Both sides agreed to continue to exchange on this issue. The meeting took place within a respectful and professional atmosphere.
