Yesterday, December 29, many residents of Jaimanitas, a neighborhood located in the Havana municipality of Playa, unexpectedly participated in a long-awaited event: the unveiling of a sculpture allegorically representing the Five Cuban heroes, which had become a testament to solidarity in José Rodríguez Fuster’s open air artistic complex.
Some six years ago painter and ceramicist José Rodríguez Fuster finished the piece but did not unveil it formally, convinced that the Cuban Five, unjustly imprisoned in the United States, would return home – as Fidel promised - and perform the honors And that’s what happened.
There was a symbolic ribbon cutting with the anti-terrorists, their families, and many friends from other countries in attendance. The locals cheered Gerardo, Antonio, René and Fernando - Ramón was not able to attend, but sent a message of gratitude with his brothers. The return of the Five and this inauguration provided yet another demonstration of the power of solidarity and commitment to justice.
