
Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, President of Cuba’s Councils of State and Ministers, yesterday September 29, held official talks with comrade Truong Tan Sang, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, who is on a state visit to the country.
During the meeting, the two leaders reaffirmed the excellent state of bilateral relations and the fraternal climate which has historically characterized ties between their countries. They reiterated their commitment to continue promoting political dialogue and strengthening economic-commercial ties, additionally discussing regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Following the official conversations and the signing of two government agreements, in the presence of the leaders’ respective delegations, the Cuban President awarded Truong Tan Sang the José Martí Order, the highest decoration granted by the Republic of Cuba.
The distinguished guest, was accompanied by Pham Binh Minh, deputy Prime Minister and minister of Foreign Relations; Dao Viet Trung, head of the Presidential office; Trinh Dinh Dung, minister of Construction; Cao Duc Phat, minister of Agriculture and Rural Development; and Nguyen Van Binh, director of the State Bank, among other leaders.
Present on the Cuban side were Rodrigo Malmierca Díaz and Gustavo Rodríguez Rollero, ministers of Foreign Trade and Investment, and Agriculture, respectively; Ernesto Medina Villaveirán, President of the Central Bank of Cuba; and Marcelino Medina González, interim minister of Foreign Relations, among other officials.
