The President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Truong Tan Sang, described his visit to the island as very fruitful, on departing from the José Martí International Airport.

Accompanied by Cuban Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rogelio Sierra, the President noted that Vietnam and Cuba have always been united, “something for which we should be extremely proud.”

“It's a friendship that began during the resistance against the U.S.,” he said, adding that Cubans can be confident that Vietnam will always be a loyal friend.

He also recalled the words of Comandante en Jefe Fidel Castro, when he stated that relations between the two countries are exemplary.

He expressed the need to continue efforts to further strengthen and diversify economic and trade relations.

The Vietnamese head of state congratulated the Cuban people for their success in the process of updating the country’s economic model and their efforts to build socialism.

He also highlighted Cuba’s successful foreign policy.

Sooner rather than later, he stressed, the United States will have to eliminate the blockade on Cuba. “We all know that after the reestablishment of relations some measures have been eased by the U.S. government, I have no doubt that in the near future the progress of the Cuban economy will be significant,” he added.

During his visit to our country, Truong Tan Sang was received by Cuban President Raúl Castro Ruz, who awarded him the José Martí Order, the highest decoration awarded by the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba.

He also undertook an intense agenda which included the signing of agreements between the two governments and participation in a Business Forum, where he learned of opportunities for investment and trade offered by the island.
