President Raúl Castro Ruz conveyed to the Solidarity with the People’s of Africa, Asia and Latin America Organization (OSPAAAL) his congratulations for its longstanding commitment to unity and solidarity among progressive forces of the Third World, in a message read during an event celebrating the organization’s 50th anniversary, by José Ramón Balaguer Cabrera, member of the Party’s Central Committee and head of its international relations department, on January 15.
The commemoration was held in the Havana Libre Hotel’s Solidarity Room, where the first Tricontinetal Congress was held, January 3-15, 1966, which led to the creation of OSPAAAL.
In his remarks, Balaguer reiterated Cuba’s commitment to the Bolivarian Revolution in Venezuela, and President Nicolás Maduro.
While Lourdes Cervantes, OSPAAAL general secretary, reconfirmed the organization’s intention to continue supporting the aspirations of Third World peoples and defending peace, adding that solidarity is much needed during this time of intense conflict, and the shameful existence of colonialism, well into the 21st century.
Also recognized as founding members of OSPAAAL, during the event, were the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and Raúl.
