Speaking in Havana, Baxhitk Rustemov, first vice president of the Kazakhstan-Cuba Friendship Association, noted the enduring quality of diplomatic relations between his country and the island, as well as the relations between the peoples of Kazakhstan and Cuba.
The Central Asian writer, author of four books on Cuba (three in Kazakh and one in Russian), speaking at the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) explained that he finds Cuba attractive and interesting due to its continued defense of its independence within a globalized capitalist world, in which injustice reins.
He added that the history of resistance and the victories of the Cuban people are impressive, and serve as an example for humanity. “Our peoples must constantly struggle for the interests of their nations and for sovereignty, against the colonization of imperialism,” he stated.
He also expressed his admiration for those of his compatriots who have been living on the Caribbean island for many years, having come in solidarity after the triumph of the Revolution and who continue to collaborate in different socio-economic areas of the country.
“During this, my first trip, I intend to strengthen the solidarity between the two peoples, as such I intend to tell Kazakhstanis in upcoming books about the capabilities of a small country that was able to maintain its sovereignty in a complex world,” Baxhitk Rustemov concluded.
Also speaking at ICAP, Hadzhi Yahya Yusif, president of the Association of Peoples of Turkic Origin of Post-Soviet States, noted that he felt very close to the Cuban people, having learned of their history and culture through exchanges with many of them.
He added that the organization he leads is in the best position to translate and disseminate Cuban literature and the island’s reality in those places where Turkish is spoken, while furthering the bonds of friendship between his own country of Azerbaijan and the island.
“Developing friendly relations between Azerbaijan and other countries is a priority, regardless of the idiosyncrasies and ancestry of individuals. We relate to other peoples as brothers and sisters and Cuba is a top priority,” he concluded.
