Santa Clara. — “Fidel among us” is the name of the new cell phone app developed by professors and students at the Marta Abreu de Las Villas Central University’s Physics, Mathematics and Computing Department.
According to Dr. Yanet Rodríguez Sarabia faculty dean, speaking at a Party Provincial Committee Plenum, the app is a useful tool to learn about the life of a man whose ideas, actions and ethical, moral values have seen him transcend history.
The app is also a modest tribute by the prestigious group to the Comandante en Jefe on his 90th birthday. According to Yanet the software can be downloaded at android.uclv.edu.cu, under the option Fidel.
The faculty dean noted that the app contains a biography of Fidel; historic remarks, speeches, images, videos and audio recordings; anecdotes involving important cultural, sporting, political and scientific figures such as Alicia Alonso, musician Adalberto Álvarez, sprinter Ana Fidelia Quirot, Camilo and Che Guevara, among other personalities; as well as a section dedicated to his closest friends including South African leader Nelson Mandela, Hugo Chávez, Gabriel García Márquez, Ernest Hemingway and Salvador Allende, among other individuals who have expressed their respect for the cherished revolutionary leader, one of the most influential people of all time.
It also offers a selection of his most important reflections published in the press, as well as various books related to his life, among them Así es Fidel, by Luis Báez.
The team at the Marta Abreu de Las Villas Central University had previously developed two similar apps; the first containing the most important speeches, documents and moments from the recently concluded 7th Party Congress; while the second was designed to contribute to facilitating debates on the conceptualization of Cuba’s Socio-Economic Model and National Development Plan.
