Three years after the creation of the ZEDM and “discrete advances, which we have the responsibility of gradually consolidating, can already be seen. We have completed works and we continue to advance in our efforts to attract new clients and initiate other important investments for the country,” noted Ana Teresa Igarza Martínez, director general of the ZEDM Office, speaking to Granma November 1, about projects in the zone, with the most representative linked to the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, finance and banking sectors, as well as the construction materials industry.
She reported that the latest project to be approved is a South Korean initiative for the production of disposable syringes, which will contribute to substituting imports of this product. Igarza Martínez also highlighted that “a company created by the New York-based Roswell Park Cancer Institute is working on a joint venture with Cuba’s Molecular Immunology Center to develop medicines to treat cancer and other illnesses, a project which features the advanced technology which we are trying to attract to the zone.”
Finally, the ZEDM official emphasized the willingness to continue promoting investments linked to all manner of logistics services, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals; the manufacturing industry, including the metal-mechanic sector, containers and packing, as well as goods and consumer items for the home and construction.
