Gala in honor of Che in Santa Clara Photo: Juvenal Balán

Santa Clara. — On October 7, artists from Villa Clara participated in a gala at the city’s La Caridad Theater honoring the Hero of the Battle of Santa Clara, Che Guevara, on the eve of celebrations to commemorate the 50th anniversary of his death.
The event was attended by José Ramón Machado Ventura, Party Central Committee second secretary; Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, first vice president of the Councils of State and Ministers of Cuba; and Esteban Lazo Hernández, president of the National Assembly of People’s Power, as well as relations of Che’s compañeros who died alongside the guerilla in Bolivia.
Artists and groups like the Nuestra América Dance Company, trio Palabras, singer Vionaika Martínez, the Alma and Baila Cuba dance companies, trio Raptus, and Gustavo Felipe Remedios who accompanied Lázaro García in a rendition of the song “Batalla de Santa Clara,” all performed during the gala.
In an expression of this city’s love for its cherished leader, residents unable to attend the event assembled to watch the special gala on two big screens outside the theater.
Among those also attending the event were members of the Party Central Committee Secretariat and highest Party and government authorities in the province, Julio Lima Corzo and Alberto Lopez Díaz, as well as senior officials from the ministries of the Revolutionary Armed Forces and Interior.
