The aim of this meeting is to review our work and reaffirm our commitment to the principles and values of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People’s Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP), stated Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla on inaugurating the 16th meeting of the bloc’s Political Council.
After welcoming those in attendance which includes representatives of all ALBA-TCP member-states, Rodríguez explained that this year has seen changes in the international situation marked by different events, and increasing attacks by the regional oligarchy and the United States on progressive movements, as well as threats to international security.
He also mentioned the intensification of the non-conventional war being waged against Venezuela, despite which the nation continues to press ahead with its national project. In this sense Rodríguez congratulated Venezuelan Chavistas for winning the municipal elections held December 10.
Meanwhile, Director General for Latin America and the Caribbean at Cuba’s Foreign Ministry, Eugenio Martínez, announced the approval of the meeting agenda which features issues related to the political situation in the region, including the campaign against Venezuela; natural disasters which have ravaged the Caribbean; and matters on the international agenda.
Martínez also stated that ALBA-TCP Executive Secretary David Choquehuanca will present the bloc’s Work Plan for next year which stresses the need to strengthen and revitalize the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) as an integration mechanism.
