The first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee, Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, along with other Party and government leaders, paid their respects yesterday to Rebel Army Comandante Faure Chomón Mediavilla, whose revolutionary work was characterized by his modesty, consistent defense of unity, and absolute loyalty to Fidel and Raúl.
The first honor guard, including Raúl and Political Bureau members Esteban Lazo Hernández, president of the National Assembly of People's Power and the Council of State; José Ramón Machado Ventura, second Party secretary; and Army General Ramón Espinosa Martín, deputy minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR), opened the tribute to the Rebel Army commander, at the Veterans Pantheon in Havana’s Colón Cemetery.
After a heartfelt greeting to relatives, Raúl recalled episodes from Faure outstanding revolutionary life, and conveyed condolences from the President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, who departed for Argentina earlier in the day, to attend the inauguration of Alberto Fernández Pérez.
Floral wreaths from the Army General, Diaz-Canel, as well as the Party, the National Assembly, the FAR, and the Association of Combatants of the Cuban Revolution, were placed alongside the urn bearing Faure’s ashes which, after the people’s tribute, was transferred to the Federation of University Students’ Revolutionary Directorate Mausoleum.
Whenever the memory of Rebel Army Comandante Faure Chomón is recalled, his devotion and total commitment to every task he undertook will always be remembered.
