Floral wreaths on behalf of Army General Raúl Castro Ruz and the First Secretary of the Party Central Committee and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, were placed alongside José Martí and Fidel’s monumental tombs in Santiago de Cuba’s Santa Ifigenia Cemetery, on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the Granma yacht expedition’s landing and Revolutionary Armed Forces Day.
The tribute was headed by José Ramón Monteagudo Ruiz, Party Secretariat member and first secretary of the Provincial Committee, as well the Eastern Army’s commanding officer, Major General Ricardo Rígel Tejeda. Floral wreaths were also delivered on behalf of Esteban Lazo Hernández, president of the National Assembly of People's Power and the Council of State, and in the name of the Cuban people. Carlos Manuel de Céspedes and Mariana Grajales, considered the father and mother of the homeland, were also honored.

Likewise, this December 2, 82 young Cubans commemorated the expedition’s landing where it took place in 1956, near Los Cayuelos in the province of Granma.
Young students and workers reenacted a portion of the tortuous journey to the Portada de la Libertad monument, where the epic feat of a handful of revolutionaries who set sail for freedom was commemorated.
The Young Communists League (UJC) presented a special recognition to the Revolutionary Armed Forces, as part of the tribute presided by Party Central Committee members Federico Hernández Hernández, first secretary in Granma, and Aylín Álvarez García, first secretary of the UJC National Committee.
