TERCER FRENTE, Santiago de Cuba.- Floral wreaths on behalf of the leader of the Revolution, Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, and Party First Secretary and President of the Republic Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, were delivered to the tribute honoring Comandante de la Revolución Juan Almeida Bosque, on the 95th anniversary of his birth.
Diaz-Canel posted a tweet, as well, recalling the exceptional revolutionary born of the people in the Havana neighborhood of Poey, on February 17, 1927, stating, “Comandante de la Revolución Juan Almeida would be 95 today. Juan of the humble, Juan of the founders, Juan of the rebels, one of the Revolution’s immortals - No one here is surrendering!"
During the tribute at the foot of the tomb where his remains lie, before the monument on the Loma de la Esperanza (The Hill of Hope), which crowns the Mario Muñoz Heroes and Martyrs of the Third Front Mausoleum, wreaths were also laid on behalf of the president of the National Assembly of People's Power and the Council of State, Esteban Lazo Hernandez, and the people of Cuba.
Party Central Committee members and the highest authorities of the Party and government in the province, José Ramón Monteagudo Ruiz and Beatriz Johnson Urrutia, respectively, alongside municipal leaders, presided the ceremony, while the honor guard was provided by students at the Camilo Cienfuegos Military School in Contramaestre.
Delivering the central remarks, on this historic hillside in the Sierra Maestra, was Sobeida Hernández Morales, Party first secretary in the municipality, who highlighted Almeida’s heroism in the armed struggle, his dedication to the construction of socialism, and loyalty to Fidel and Raúl, which serve as an example and continue to inspire efforts to promote development in the region.
After the ceremony, Monteagudo Ruiz and Johnson Urrutia, along with a representative group of the town’s residents, placed red roses on the green marble slab bearing the military rank and name of Comandante de la Revolución Juan Almeida Bosque, here where he established the Rebel Army’s Third Front, on Fidel’s orders.
