
The energy issue was a priority in the work agenda of the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez during the most recent international tour in which successful days were consolidated for Cuba in various fields.
the Minister of Energy and Mines, Vicente de la O Levy, spoke to the press team of the Presidency about the significance of agreements and decisions associated with that sector that were born or strengthened in those days, and their impact on the island's economy a few hours after the end of the tour, in the Cuban delegation visited Algeria, Russia, Turkey and China.
The Energy and Mines Minister shared his assessment on how much progress was made on the energy issue, and he categorically assured: "We can say it was a success in the four countries."
"Whenever we talk about the National Power Grid, we only think of thermoelectric plants, but it is much more than that," said de la O Levy, who summarized some of the main decisions made in the countries visited to contribute to mitigate the complex situation that characterizes the National Power Grid today.
In detailing the most important agreements reached by country, he recalled that in the particular case of Algeria, it was decided to resume "the stable supply of fuel to Cuba" for the supply of power plants, among other actions reported by President Abdelmajid Tebboune; it was also decided to donate a photovoltaic park to be installed in Havana, which will be connected to the National Power Grid and will benefit all the people of Cuba, from Pinar del Río to Guantánamo.
"The rest of the countries visited showed the same interest in cooperation," said the Minister of Energy and Mines.
In Russia, there was also talk of supporting the National Power Grid in matters of fuel supply, renewable energy and the operation of thermoelectric plants, among others.
Regarding the visit to Türkiye, he explained they met with the representatives of the Turkish companies operating the floating power plants to exchange of the follow-up actions, he said.
He underlined the meeting with the businessmen convened by DEIK, a Business Diplomacy Organization that manages the foreign economic relations of the Turkish private sector, the Minister of Energy and Mines explained that multiple business opportunities were identified by both parties in the National Power Grid, with special emphasis on renewable energies.
In China, they took actions to resume "the photovoltaic parks that were stopped due to the lack of financing, and to analyze and make the payment conditions more flexible so that investments can continue."
When asked about the challenges of implementing the agreements adopted in the different countries, the Minister of Energy and Mines was emphatic in his answer: "Now it is up to us to implement all these agreements as quickly as possible, through our embassies, specialists and technicians."
Finally, the Minister ratified "the commitment to reduce the effects of the energy crisis on the population in the month of December." By sustaining and stabilizing the electric system, we will enter into the stage of a much more efficient electro-energy system, with the use of "renewable energies, and this was a good part of the mission with the President of the Republic Díaz-Canel".
