
May 14, Pianist Ernán López-Nussa won the 18th International Cubadisco Festival 2014 Grand Prize for his album, Sacrilegio, (Colibri Productions), that moves between classical and popular music. The Grand Prize was awarded to pianist Ernán López-Nussa (far left) for his CD-DVD, Sacrilegio, produced by Colibrí. The double album (Rondó and Molto vivo), accompanied by a DVD, features music by composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven, Ernesto Lecuona and Ignacio Cervantes, among others. The album also won in the categories of Anthology Versions, Recording, CD-DVD and Jazz, during the award ceremony held at Havana’s Hotel Nacional. Other winners also included Beatriz Márquez receiving the Extraordinary Award for Interpretive Excellence for her album Espontáneamente and La Colmenita Children’s Theatre Company who took home the Special Extraordinary Award for Siempre habrá Van Van. The albums, El tres y el cuatro, by Pancho Amat y su Cabildo del Son; Ángel Martínez and Ensemble 4×4; Concierto antológico, Santiago Feliz; Te doy una canción, Augusto Enríquez; Me dicen Cuba, Emilio Vega; Volcán, Gonzalo Rubalcaba and Colección 30 años by Liuba María Hevia, were all Cubadisco 2014 Special Award winners. The award for Trova went to Mundo paripé, by Inti Santana and winner of the Popular Music catagory was Respeto pa´ los mayores, by Adalberto Álvarez y su Son, both produced by Bis Music. De todos los colores y también verde, by Aldo López-Gavilán won in the Instrumental Music category, while Sin fronteras, by Chucho Valdés was received the award for Cuban Jazz. Jorge Rodríguez was named Producer of the Year and Tony Pinelli, Composer of the Year. Record label, Colibrí, was the big winner on the night taking home 30 awards in different categories.
