Caracas.— Julio Vélez, former councilor of Cúcuta - capital of the Colombian department of Santander - with links to former President Álvaro Uribe, was arrested on June 3 and identified as the intellectual author of the murder of Venezuelan lawmaker Robert Serra and his partner María Herrera on October 1, 2014.

In a telephone conversation with multinational broadcaster TeleSUR the Venezuelan President reported that Julio Vélez is suspected of having financed and directed the murder of Venezuelan lawmaker Robert Serra and his partner María Herrera.

According to the information provided by President Maduro, the investigation team is currently carrying out collateral operations in locate and arrest a number of his accomplices.
