LA PAZ.— Bolivia ranks second in Latin America, behind Cuba, for public spending on education, reported sector Minister, Roberto Aguilar.

According to the Bolivian official, the Andean nation devotes 8.3% of its GDP and close to 16% of the national budget to education.
“These figures position us in first place in South America and second in Latin America, and we are one of the top five countries in the world with the highest rate of government spending on education,” stated Aguilar.
Education has become a priority sector for the government of Evo Morales since he first took office, over a decade ago.
The minister highlighted transformations in the sphere over recent years, stressing improvements to teacher training, the level of which has been raised both structurally and in regards to quality.
Bolivia currently has 144,053 teachers, 49,000 of which work in secondary level education, he noted.
This week 421 educators from that country received their Masters degree in productive social and community education, according to PL.
