When Cuban mothers have repeatedly asked their children to do something, fruitlessly, they end up saying: "I've said it 30 times, when are you going to do it? It is almost impossible not to think of this classic phrase, so popular in the nation, when one sees the vast majority of the UN has voted for three decades in favor of lifting the blockade against Cuba, and the United States persists in maintaining its policy.

On November 3, 2022, the Resolution a/77/L.5 entitled Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba, was once again approved with 185 votes in favor, two against (USA and Israel) and two abstentions (Brazil and Ukraine).

The interventions of that day revealed how strongly the world condemns this genocidal policy.

SAINT KITTS AND NEVIS: ONE PEOPLE, ONE WORLD

St. Kitts and Nevis regretted the unilateral and coercive measures imposed by the United States for so long, because "the blockade is an extremely heavy burden for Cuba and the whole Caribbean."

GRENADA: THE TIME FOR SOLUTIONS HAS COME

Grenada affirmed that it is an important time to renew the commitment to the United Nations Charter, and pointed out that eliminating the blockade will facilitate socio-economic changes.

SOUTH AFRICA: CUBA HAS BEEN A LEADER HELPING COUNTRIES IN NEED

South Africa stressed that Cuba has been a leader helping developing countries in a selfless way, but sanctions for Cuban transactions prevent the acquisition of medicines, supplies and equipment for the nation.

ETHIOPIA: U.S. SHOULD REINSTATE 2015 MEASURES.

Ethiopia welcomed that the issue is being discussed, but warned that it has been carried out for more than three decades, without results on the part of the U.S. The measures approved in 2015 should be restored, establishing a relationship of diplomatic normality.

LAOS: THE BLOCKADE HAS HAD A PROFOUND IMPACT ON DEVELOPMENT

Laos added that this measure has had a profound impact on the socio-economic development of Cuba, with consequences and difficulties for an innocent people.

PERU: URGENT NEED TO PUT AN END TO UNILATERAL MEASURES

Peru stressed the urgency of putting an end to unilateral measures, so that the island can advance in its development objectives, and recalled their extraterritorial effects.

CONGO: IT IS A VIOLATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS

The Congo detailed that this session is taking place in a context of international crisis derived from the pandemic, while Cuba continues to face the blockade imposed by the U.S., which is a violation of human rights.

INDIA: THIS POLICY UNDERMINES THE CREDIBILITY OF THE UN

India exposed the ways in which the continuance of this policy undermines multilateralism and the credibility of the United Nations itself, adding that the blockade hinders the full enjoyment of the human rights of Cubans.

ANGOLA: WITHOUT THE BLOCKADE GREATER PROSPERITY COULD BE ACHIEVED

Angola denounced the obstacles to the economic, social and cultural development of the Island, as well as the negative repercussions in key sectors such as agriculture, medicine and education, hindering the sustainable development of the country.

NICARAGUA: A CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY

Nicaragua rejected the legal measures that, in times of pandemic, become a crime against humanity, and exemplified the ways in which the U.S. threatens and pressures third countries.

JAMAICA: SCARES AWAY PROSPERITY

Jamaica considered that the blockade scares away prosperity, growth and the realization of the aspirations of the Cuban people. He shared his hope that this will be the last time that a dialogue on the subject will be held at the UN.

ALGERIA: HINDERS LASTING GROWTH

Algeria pointed out that the blockade is contrary to the basic principle of the international multilateral trade system, and that it is an obstacle to achieving lasting economic growth in Cuba, as it limits its capacity for development.

ZIMBABWE: NO REAL EFFORTS TO ELIMINATE IT

The economic situation, worsened by the effects caused by the blockade, was pointed out by Zimbabwe, whose representative added that this is "an unnecessary burden for the Cuban people", and that there is no evidence of real efforts to eliminate this policy.
