By an overwhelming majority of 187 votes in favor, two against (U.S. and Israel) and one abstention (Ukraine) the world once again demanded on Thursday the end of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba for more than six decades.

After two days in which representatives of 44 nations raised their voices against this unilateral and genocidal policy -and 21 of them also did so explicitly against the inclusion of the island in the list of countries sponsoring terrorism-, this new victory of an entire people for their sovereignty took place.

This is the 31st consecutive occasion in which the United Nations General Assembly unequivocally reiterates its position against the blockade and calls for its end, without further conditions.

Once again, the United States was isolated in the face of the practically unanimous demand of the international community, which energetically condemned the cruel and illegal nature of the most severe and prolonged system of unilateral coercive measures ever applied against any nation.

Only Israel joined the U.S. vote, while Ukraine abstained.

After the result of the vote was known, the First Secretary of the Communist Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, expressed through his X account that "the world has pronounced itself with exalting and firm words, to recognize Cuba's work of solidarity and social justice and to condemn the genocidal blockade of the United States", and described the speech of the representative of that country as ridiculous. He said that his plea was full of lies, slander and hypocrisy.

Moments before, the member of the Political Bureau of the Party and Foreign Minister of the Island, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, explained in detail the effects caused by the blockade, and recalled the ruthless way in which the US government denied the Island access to vital medical supplies during the COVID-19 epidemic.

For this reason, he affirmed that it is something that "violates the right to life, health, education and welfare of all Cubans", and constitutes "an act of war in peacetime".
