"Welcome to Cuba, and I hope we can continue to develop our relations in a very coherent manner," said the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, on Monday afternoon, when welcoming Serguei Glaziev, Minister of Integration and Macroeconomics of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC).
From the Palace of the Revolution, the Head of State affirmed to the visiting friend that his presence in the Caribbean country "has an important significance", and argued that "it gives continuity to all the relations we maintain with the Eurasian Union".
He valued as very successful the Third Meeting of the Joint Commission between the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) and Cuba, which took place on Monday in Havana, and which was led by the Cuban Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz; and Serguei Glaziev.
Díaz-Canel confirmed to the visitor that "it is a priority to continue advancing, expanding and consolidating relations with the Eurasian Union, to be able to develop all the plans and programs that we have proposed and that were discussed today in the Commission, and to expand economic and trade relations with all the countries of the Eurasian Union".
He affirmed that it is important to continue strengthening relations between institutions such as Chambers of Commerce and others, between our countries, and between banking and financial institutions, in order to move forward in a faster way.
"We also ratify that Cuba will continue to increase its role as an observer country," said Díaz-Canel, who was emphatic in thanking "all the understanding and all the support of the Eurasian Union, having accepted us as an Observer State."
Since December 2020 Cuba holds the status of Observer State of the Eurasian Economic Union. That is why the President, and also the member of the Political Bureau and Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz, have taken an active part, with several interventions, in the Supreme and Intergovernmental Councils of this bloc of nations.
"In these years -the dignitary stated- progress has been made, but I believe we have a very great potential. Our part in the Commission has raised which are the sectors in which it seems that we can contribute more; and in those sectors we are willing to make any kind of cooperation".
For his part, Serguei Glaziev expressed his gratitude to his host "for having found time in your agenda to receive us, and also for all the support you give to the development of the links with the Eurasian Economic Union".
The head of Integration and Macroeconomics of the EEC commented to the Head of State that they follow "always with great attention your intervention in the Supreme Councils of the Union"; and he wanted to thank "for all the support that Cuba gives us in the political field".
"We agree on most of the positions, both in the economic and political spheres; and we will also favor, from every point of view, our commercial and economic exchange", Glaziev valued.
On the Cuban side, Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz and Ana Teresita González Fraga, minister and first deputy minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, respectively, attended the reception.
ONE MORE STEP IN THE TIES BETWEEN CUBA AND THE EURASIAN ECONOMIC COMMISSION
In order to strengthen trade relations in the field of agro-industry, tourism and the production of medicines and medical devices, the third session of the Joint Commission for collaboration between the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) and Cuba was held yesterday in Havana.
After the signing of the protocol of the meeting, which was made by Serguei Glaziev, Minister of Integration and Macroeconomics of the EEC, on behalf of the EEC, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment, Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, ratified that promoting the links between the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) and the Greater of the Antilles is a shared will.
He called to "shake and turn what has been signed into profitable and sustainable joint projects to, in this way, build solid ties that will allow us to take advantage of the existing opportunities for the benefit of mutual growth".
Cabrisas Ruiz expressed Cuba's intention to become more proactively and effectively involved in UEE events and events, and argued that the island constitutes a regional platform for exchange with Latin America and the Caribbean, not only because of its geographical location, but also because of the agreements it has signed with several regional mechanisms.
He assured that "we can do much more in terms of the development of our peoples", that "it is the responsibility of both parties to transform the ways of doing things that have assisted us so far", and recommended promoting joint projects for the development of infrastructure such as ports and airports, and implementing actions to eliminate obstacles and streamline processes in terms of the regulation of the movement of goods and sanitary and phytosanitary measures.
Since 2020, Cuba has been an observer member of the economic bloc, and has been represented in it at the highest level.
