"Your visit to our country says a lot about the historic relations between Cuba and Seychelles," said the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Tourism of the African country, His Excellency Mr. Louis Sylvestre Radegonde.

Accompanied by the member of the Political Bureau and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, the Head of State sent greetings to President Wavel Ramkalawan, to whom he extended an invitation to visit the Greater Antilles

Cuba and Seychelles established diplomatic relations in 1978, but the ties between both peoples and governments date back to before the independence of that African archipelago in the Indian Ocean, in 1976.

Both nations have maintained a long-standing relationship in areas such as education and health. In the latter, several hundreds of Cuban doctors have collaborated over the years.

In the meetings between the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Seychelles and Cuban authorities, the common will to strengthen bilateral cooperation has been ratified. The island was grateful for the support of that nation for the UN resolutions to put an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the U.S. government.

This is the third visit of Mr. Louis Sylvestre Radegonde to Cuba, who underscored the contribution of the largest of the Antilles in the area of health and the training of medical personnel.

The African Minister of Foreign Affairs was accompanied by His Excellency Mr. Ian Dereck Joseph Madeleine, concurrent ambassador to Cuba, and by the third secretary, Mrs. Louisa Germaine Jeanette Lepathy, at the reception of President Diaz-Canel at the Palace of the Revolution.
