
The President of the Republic of Nauru, H.E. Hon. David Ranibok Adeang, will pay an official visit to Cuba, from today until June 1, 2024.
During his stay, the distinguished visitor will hold official talks, meet with Cuban authorities, and carry out other activities of interest.
BIOGRAPHY OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF NAURU, DAVID RANIBOK WAIAU ADEANG
David R. W. Adeang, elected as the 17th President of the Republic of Nauru, is a prominent politician who has played an important role in the governance of the island nation. He was sworn in, along with his cabinet ministers, on October 30, 2023.
His portfolios include Public Service, Finance and Sustainable Development, Multicultural Affairs, as well as the state-owned Eigigu Holding Corporation, Eigigu Procurement Ltd. and Eigigu Solution Corporation.
He is the longest-serving deputy in the current Parliament. Born on November 24, 1969, he started his political career at the age of 32, in the 2001 General Election, and has held his parliamentary seat for the Ubenide constituency, until the last election in September 2022.
His political career includes serving as Speaker of Parliament and holding several ministerial portfolios, including Assistant Minister to the President and Minister of Finance, Justice, Foreign Affairs, Home Affairs, Multicultural Affairs, Nauru Air Corporation and Eigigu Holdings Corporation.
He attended Geelong Grammar School in Victoria, Australia, where he graduated from the University of the South Pacific with a degree in Economics, and subsequently obtained a Master's degree in Foreign Affairs and Trade from the Australian National University. He also completed a program in investment appraisal and management at Harvard University in Boston, USA.
Prior to entering politics, Adeang worked in the Department of Foreign Affairs (now Foreign Affairs and Trade) as a junior civil servant, was responsible officer for Nauru's High Commission in Fiji, Presidential Advisor, Foreign Secretary, Financial Secretary, Cabinet Secretary and Chief Secretary.
