The plan against Venezuela by U.S. President Donald Trump, his Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth is as cynical as it is dangerous.
It is even aimed at a large number of Latin American and Caribbean countries, those that are united by friendship, solidarity, and sovereign respect. He made this clear in his most recent exchange with the media, in which he reiterated his plans to attack not only the Bolivarian homeland, but also other countries in the region. "Anywhere drugs are coming from," he said.
The White House leadership's plan can be simplified as follows: Overthrowing the Venezuelan government would be the first step. Next, seizing the country's natural resources, mainly its oil; and, at the same time, dismantling the Bolivarian nation's affiliation and example as a founding member of ALBA and CELAC, among other regional organizations and mechanisms.
End Operation Miracle, which has restored sight to hundreds of thousands of citizens of that country. Break with something as sacred as the right of every person to learn to read and write, as part of the educational missions. Do away with the rest of the Social Missions, which have provided thousands of homes to those most in need and are now part of the heritage of the Venezuelan people.
The Trump-Rubio-Hegseth plan implicitly involves installing in power some of the figures created by the United States, who have stolen millions of dollars and allowed large companies in the country to be appropriated by the U.S. government.
It would mean subjecting Venezuelans to colonial tutelage, which would surely entail breaking off medical collaboration with Cuba, which has saved hundreds of thousands of lives among the poorest and most remote sectors and areas through the Barrio Adentro Mission.
Venezuela would return to hunger, unemployment, illiteracy, and, above all, the loss of sovereignty and independence, as well as the honor that the Bolivarian Revolution and the collaboration it has provided to sister nations in the region represent for Venezuelans, Latin Americans, and Caribbean people.
The macabre plan of Trump, Marco Rubio, and Hegseth would destroy the basis and foundation of the transformation program initiated by Hugo Chávez and currently led by Nicolás Maduro and the civic-military union.
Never more relevant than now is José Martí's maxim of "Plan against Plan." As the Master asserted in 1892: "Our enemy obeys a Plan to embitter us, disperse us, divide us, and drown us. That is why we obey another Plan: to teach us to rise to our full height, to unite, to come together, to outwit him, to finally make our homeland free. Plan against Plan."
