One limited step in the right direction

Havana, May 16, 2022. Today, the government of the United States announced several measures regarding Cuba, which are positive but of a very limited scope, associated with the granting of visas, regular migration, flights to Cuban provinces, remittances and adjustments to the regulations governing transactions with the non-state sector.

On January 14, 2025, the U.S. Government announced the decision to: 1) exclude Cuba from the list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism; 2) make use of the presidential prerogative to prevent action in U.S. courts; and 3) eliminate the list of restricted Cuban entities that designates a group of institutions that have been designated by the U.S. Government as "restricted entities"

Cuba-U.S. Bilateral Commission to hold first meeting

The recently established Cuba-U.S. Bilateral Commission is scheduled to hold its first meeting September 11 in Havana, with the Cuban delegation to be led by Josefina Vidal Ferreiro, the Foreign Ministry’s director general for the United States, while the U.S. State Department’s Deputy Assistant Secretary for South America and Cuba, Edward Alex Lee, will lead that country’s delegation

President of Cuba pays tribute to Malcolm X

In a emotional ceremony, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel paid tribute to Malcolm X, outstanding activist for civil rights and human rights in the United States.  The ceremony took place at the Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial and Educational Center, in New York City.
