Teófilo Stevenson was Cuba's Olympic standard bearer on three occasions, and during each one of those Games, he won a gold medal. Today, when the celebrated Maracaná Stadium puts aside its soccer fantasies to become the stage on which the dreams of thousands of athletes will play out, Mijaín López will follow in the footsteps of the mythical boxer, carrying the single-starred flag to lead the delegation during the 36th Olympic Games' opening ceremony.
But before, Mijain takes the mat to seek his third gold medal in Greco-Roman wrestling, other Cubans will have their chance to compete. Cuban archer Adrián Puentes will be the first today.
No more waiting, the Olympic magic begins now.
