Preparations complete as school year begins

"In comparison with last year, the situation for the present academic year is much better in terms of teaching staff, the distribution of study materials, the availability of facilities – despite difficulties – and with respect to the issue of maintenance," announced Dr. Ena Elsa Velázquez Cobiella, Cuba’s minister of Education, in a press conference held to discuss the opening of school.

Priority given to vocational studies

In accordance with policies adopted by Cuba over the last few years, the recently concluded academic year maintained the focus on prioritizing the development of vocational education. Thus 42% of students finishing middle-school will continue their studies in pre-university high schools, while 58% will enroll in different vocational education programs.

The Pastors for Peace Friendship Caravan has arrived in Cuba for the 25th occasion, after visiting more than 65 cities in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
